This is a list of my favorite papers. I am not an especially good writer, so a paper is probably
considered 'favored' by me when it is about a topic that I am particularly passionate about.
Very occasionally I might also feel it is well written…Enjoy!

Brief Title

Description of paper

Quest for the Captive Child:
A weekend experiment in restoring the magic of relational creativity to everyday life.

My final arts thesis project paper –describes the process of creating and hosting a very unusual weekend experiment that arose from looking into Galadriel’s pool and creating a playful portal between fantasy and reality.

The Ring, The Stone, & The Pool:

This paper explores the nature of technology, how it is affecting our culture, how people have perceived it, and how I think we might better relate to it. I use Tolkien's myth to examine the relationship between technology, magic and art.

The Final Forum: a dialogue about hell

In RTF

In HTML

A very exhaustively researched paper, in the form of a dialogue, which explores the doctrine of hell and which, in the end, challenges the traditional view of hell as an experience of irredeemable conscious punishment. I'll leave my conclusions as a surprise. If the size is intimidating, please at least skip down to the third section.  Or even better, read Brian’s Mclaren’s book (he read this paper) entitled “The Last Word and the Word After That”.

Eclectic Spiritual Seekers/Wild Horses -a bridge building paper

This in-depth research paper is another that I am really proud of. It basically 1) tries to build bridges and highlight barriers between Christians and who I call 'eclectic spiritual seekers' (which some call, and can sometimes mean, 'the new age'). 2) critiques the typically shallow, judgmental and paranoid approach most Christians and Christian authors have had towards these groups.

Theo of Religions, Final Question 2

I define and assess the terms "Pluralism," "Exclusivism" and "Inclusivism", and then give my current position –sort of an Inclusivist adaptation --though I'm still not quite sure about all this…(;.

Continuos imaginative listening prayer

This is a fairly in-depth research paper on the topic of listening prayer. It outlines the current problem of how we primarily thinking of prayer as one-way communication; looks at the history of this problem; and then explores and outlines in detail some possible advice as to how to enter into 'listening'/meditative/imaginative prayer. It’s about the crossroads of imagination, God's Spirit, and trusting prayer.

*On Being Taken In

One of my favorite papers that highlights what I think is the brilliance of CS Lewis --his ability to "provide an integrated view of reality that reasonably satisfies, or points towards the satisfaction of, our deepest longings" --lots of neat stuff and quotes get worked into this paper.

An interactive anthology on the Imagination

For any artists out there.  This is an essay that interacts with an anthology of quotes from the readings for this class. I get into some fun and wild ideas here, and it primarily shows what excites me about the mysterious faculty of our 'imagination' and our creative abilities as humans.

*Wild Stables

This is a fairly thorough research paper that takes "A look at the role and necessity of Christian Communities as mediating structures between neglected subcultures, the church and God". The need for alternative, creative, flexible communities. This greatly helped to provide the theological and theoretical understanding for what Anna and I hope to do after Regent.

Celtic pre-Christian Religion

This is a huge research paper on the pre-Christian Celtic religion. I was interested in this topic because there is so much hype about Celtic spirituality being claimed by many groups --I wanted to know what the truth was about them --this turned out more difficult than I thought. But I did learn a lot about natural religions in general, Indo-European history, the complexity of history and historical research, and yes, about Celtic religion and its connections to Christianity, etc.

Jesus as a Bard

This research paper shows how Jesus was a very creative teacher, like a Bard, and goes into more depth particularly on why he used parables.

The Matrix review

A somewhat critical review of the sci-fi movie 'The Matrix'.

On Self-Acceptance

I wrote this research paper because I was struggling with the topic of self-acceptance. One half is a research paper, drawing primarily from Leanne Payne. The other half contains pieces of my journal entries that relate to my struggle in this issue. The primary conclusion relates self-acceptance to trusting in and accepting God's faithful love.

'The Ethics of Elfland' in Chesterton's 'Orthodoxy'

An interactive book review with GK Chesterton's "Orthodoxy" --but almost entirely on the fascinating chapter "The ethics of Elfland". This chapter is primarily about how science and modernism has affected how we view the world --it helped me to see the life and magic in creation.

A pagan-buddhist dialogue, summary

This paper describes my 2nd meeting and dialogue with a ‘Pagan-Buddhist’ friend and the interesting, challenging ideas and questions that came up in our conversations.

A basic summary of our Artistic community proposal

This is a paper by Anna and I that attempts to give a rough explanation (history of, theology of, description of vision) and outline (what we do, what it might cost, a timeline for things to come together) for our the artistic community that we hope to help start.

The Wind in the Willows- home and adventure.doc

A book review of Kenneth Grahame's classic 'The Wind in the Willows', exploring the theme of the mysterious tension between a desire for 'safety/home' and 'adventure/away'.

Finnian the Bard, first few chapters

The first few chapters of a book I started about a 10th Century Celtic bard who comes into our time. It is meant to complement the above paper about Jesus being a creative teacher. Obviously, I am also here exploring the idea of myself taking on this role or 'vocation'.

'A Wideness in God's Mercy' book review

A review (and somewhat of an advertisement for) Clarke Pinnock's "A wideness in God's mercy". This is an excellent book (though it could have been even more researched, particularly exegetically) that argues for an inclusivist stance towards others religions as a middle ground between the standard evangelical exclusivism on one hand, and the 'anything goes' too liberal pluralism on the other hand.

Christian Life Fall Final

My fall final for Christian Life class --a very interesting, though quite jumbled, summary of the ideas presented in class.

Reasons why I came to Regent

First paper written at Regent. Describes why I think I came to Regent.
